House hunting - A bank owned duplex in Torrance
We came across this bank owned duplex in the good neighborhood area of Torrance for only $590K. We quickly went over to take a look at it within the same day it was list. Such a good price for a duplex. Usually a single family house, you cannot get for that much. This house was also in the Torrance school district.
It was a fixer upper from the pictures we saw on the web. When we got there, we then knew it needed a LOT more work. The front house was a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house. The square footage of it looked to be around 1000 sq ft. The house was pretty beat up. Everything had to be redone including the kitchen, bathroom, windows, etc. The back house we could not see because the owner was still occupying it. But that was had a completely different style from the front house. It was like 2 completely different houses in one lot. It did not even match at all.
To me this was just buying the land. Both houses needed major work. If you fix them up a little, you can use it for a rental property. It was something I could not see my family living in. It is a definite pass for us.

From our househunting, we have seen many “fixer-uppers” in Torrance as well; especially the ones that are foreclosed or closed to being foreclosed. With a toddler, it’s tough to get a house that’s a major fixer-upper. btw, I can barely see what I’m typing in the comment box because both the background and the fonts are “black”.
