Outlet shopping in Camarillo
This past Sunday, we decide to head out to the outlet mall in Camarillo to see if there are any good sales. It was the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, and there were advertised some good deals. I like this mall because of the variety of stores. You can probably even find a Bluetooth headset if you need one. The first stop for my wife was the Coach outlet. They were giving out a 20% off coupon to everyone, but there was nothing to my wife’s liking.
We also stopped at several other stores but there were not much great deals. The stuff that was on sale, we did not like too much. My wife ended up picking up a couple of shirts for Chinese New Year, and we got a shirt for Brandon at the Gap.
I did not get anything this time around. The mall was practically empty too which was kind of sad to see for a Sunday afternoon. I guess the economic recession is still on everyone’s mind.
Irvine 01/23/2010
This past weekend, we headed out to Irvine again to check out some listings. We had a late start. We did not leave our house until 4:30 p.m. By the time we got to Irvine it was starting to get dark, but we were still able to see 3 houses. Our first stop was a detached 3 bedroom house located right behind Irvine Community College. This was an older house, but it has been recently updated with hardwood floors, new carpet, new kitchen and bathrooms. The price for this house was $535K. It was really nice and open, and the swimming pool was located right in front of the house. But the one thing we did not like was the master bedroom was located upstairs while the other 2 bedrooms were downstairs. The size of the master was on the smaller sided too. The house has single paned windows, which had to be updated.
Another house we looked at was a 3 bedroom townhouse. We like this house because it was located right in front of a park. Your front yard was the beginning of the park. This is perfect for Brandon. There were swings and slides located steps from the house. The bedrooms were good sized and had a open floorplan. This was an older house which needed some updating. The kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, windows, and patio will need some money spent on it. It will be nice to add a Danze faucet to the kitchen and bathrooms. It was priced at $469K, which was bit on the high side considering the work that needed to be done to it.
Next week we plan to go again to Irvine. New homes at Woodbury East are opening up. We want to check it out.

Fence repair in the South Bay (Torrance, Gardena)
We had a damaged wrought iron fence in our front yard. If you seen pictures of our house, you probably seen an old wooden wheel that decorates one portion of our fence. Well, the wheel has had better days. After years of sun and rain, the wood has practically melted away. We decided to finally replace it. We thought of several options. One was to replace the wooden wheel with another wheel, and we brought in several quotes. We finally decided to just take out the wheel and replace that whole section of fence. The company we went with was Gonzalez Iron Works located in Gardena. Julian the owner gave us the best estimate. The others were not even close. The best part is that it took only one day to get a brand new fence up. They took down the fence on Saturday morning, and on Sunday they had a brand new one up already. The new fence looks great. It was even painted to match the original color everything, saving me time to do it myself. I was not expecting that. I would highly recommend them.
They service all areas of the South Bay including Gardena, Torrance, Lawndale, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hawthorne, etc.

Cheaper auto insurance
Moving to Irvine, I know that my auto insurance rate may increase. The one thing with my current insurance company is that they ask for you annual miles driven in your car. I may have to look into some auto insurance quotes to see if I can get a better deal out there. But if I were to telecommute I will only be doing the drive twice a week. My mileage should not really increase by that much. It is something I will have to compute when we actually do move.
Car tow service
The one thing about moving to Irvine is the addition commute time and distance. It will be about a 40 mile one way commute from work to home. What if something were to happen to my car on the freeway? I currently have AAA. I have the basic plan which gives you a free 7 mile tow. If I were to move I plan on upgrading my coverage to include an increase distance for tows.
I love having AAA in addition to the car services they provide i.e. rv towing, jump starts, they also have many discounts at retail establishments and restaurants.
Home shopping in Irvine continued pt3
This past weekend, we went looking at some older homes in the Irvine area. When you think about Irvine, you think of new condos and townhomes, but they have their fair share of older single family residence. We took a look at 4 homes. And out of the 4 one caught our eye. It was a single family resident south of the 405 on Culver. The house was a single story 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. The house was clean and updates were made to it. It was in move in condition. I liked the area because it was open. The houses were not all jammed packed together like the new communities.
The price for the house was $519K. On the negative side, it was a bit on the smaller side (especially the rooms. And in the living room there was no insulation on the roof, so it can get a bit cold (or hot). The other homes were either out of our price range or not to our liking.
I am getting really excited about buying a new house. One thing is that I can finally dump my old tube TV and get a new LCD or plasma one. I will have to look into plasma mounts to attach it to the wall of our new house.
Old Navy 50% off Clearance items
Yesterday I found out that Old Navy was having a 50% sale off their already reduced clearance items. So I went during my lunch break to the Manhattan Beach store to see if I could find any good deals for Brandon. There were not too many shirts in his size 4T or 5T, but they had plenty of long sleeve XS size tees. I ended up buying 4. I spent a total of $11!
Here are some of the items I got… a long sleeve collar shirt. The orginal price was $14.50. It was discounted to $3.97 in the clearance section. 50% off of that was only $1.98.
We always pick up a bunch of clothes for Brandon during this time. They have some really nice infant and kids clothes. As for me, I do not really like their clothes too much so I did not get anything.
