Job Hunting recipes

Unemployment rate still high

The unemployment rate in the United States is at an all time high. I was reading online a couple of weeks ago that the rate was 16%. It is probably higher because that percentage is not counting the people that have given up looking for a job, so you are looking at something over 20%. With more people out of jobs look for the rate to continue increasing. It is a ripple effect.

The one thing if you do find yourself unemployed is to collect unemployment and look for some short term health insurance NC to get you by. Things are not a bleak as they seem. There are still many jobs out there, you just have to look and apply.

Real estate career in Irvine

When we move to Irvine, and when my son starts going to school, my wife plans to start working again. She has done real estate for the past 5 years, and she wants to get back into it full time. There are many people trying to sell and buy in the Irvine area, so there is business. All she has to do is about 5 transactions a year and that is more than enough money for us. Think about it. Say she does a transaction for a $500K home. She will earn $12,500 on commission from it. And if you multiply that by 5, it is $62,500.

To start the her business she may need to print some promotional calenders or something like that to get her name out. Once she does a few transactions, referrals should also start coming in.

How is the job market?

I am the type of person that is constantly checking around for jobs. It is a good way to keep updated in the employment market as well as see what is out there. Who does not want a promotion and a raise? But the job market has been really scarce. They say we are slowly recovering, but I really have not seen many jobs out there for us business professionals.

Working in finance and accounting, I am not seeing many openings either. Jobs with my company have been moved to the east coast and mid west. Well if you are looking for jobs in the east coast, check out this south jersey jobs site. There are still many companies hiring.

More jobs heading out of California

I just heard in the business wire this past week that Northrop Grumman will be moving its corporate office from Century City California to Washington D.C. Recently they had already moved a large chunk of the accounting operations to Irving, Texas. Their main reason they are stating is that they will be closer to their customers to provide better customer service. But if you think about it, the money they will save from the high rent Century City district is probably one of the biggest deciding factors. Also couple that with the fact they will not have to pay their employees as much as in California.

About 300 employees will have to face the decision of whether relocating or losing their job. There are still company operations in El Segundo and Redondo Beach, so these employees can still move to any open requisitions there.

Nissan and Toyota recently have parts of their operations move to the mid west, so look for the unemployment figure to keep rising in this state.

An option for these people out of work is to try to make money from blogging, I would suggest you look into seo tools to help increase traffic to your website. It can help hold you above water until you find a new job.

Helping friends out

Sometimes you have some friends that are looking for a new job or out of employment. I usually try my best to get them a job here at my company. In addition to helping them out, I also get a referral bonus. Usually it is only $500 for an overhead business or accounting person, but it is still good. What I tell them to do is send me their resumes. I can either put it in the referral database or if I know of an opening, I can forward their resume directly to the manager.

Currently we do have a lot of openings for business people and engineers, but the hiring process is difficult. They usually promote from within, so someout from the outside really has a disadvantage. Like myself most people here work from the bottom up.

Medical billing career option

The job market is getting tough, and the unemployment rate keeps on rising. It is not that easy to find a job these days. A lot of employers are asking for experience as well as a degree or certification. One career option that has been growing is medical billing. You can get your certification online. At the Allied Health Institute, they offer these medical coding training courses that can help you get started in this career field. Check out their website to learn more about this program.

Chemist job openings

Finding a job in a laboratory can be tough. Believe me, my wife went through the same thing after graduating from college with a chemistry degree. There are not many jobs in the science field. At laboratory assistant Jobs, they can help you find jobs in the industry across the nation. I ran a search for chemist openings in the Los Angeles area and found many.

New Job

I recently accepted an offer in my company to go in the sector financial side of the house. This means leaving the accounting department, which I have work for the past 9 years. Our company is going through a lot of transition. The accounting function is slowly being moved to Dallas, Texas. There is still an accounting department here, but the opportunity for growth is very limited. The people at the higher positions have been there for a long time and do not seem to eager to move. Plus working in accounting demands long hours.

I have made the switch to doing capital management for our company. It is a promotion and raise for me, so I am all for it. In my prior accounting job the hours were really flexible and the work was relatively easy. I am looking for a new challenge from this new position.

I officially started this past week, and I have been in deep training as well. The one thing I do not like about going to a new job is all the unfamiliarity. But you have to take that chance if you want to move up in the corporate ladder. More to come in latter posts.

With our company, we have to apply for any jobs you are interested in. I found this opening in our company’s career site. We have to go through the interview process like any external candidates. But since I have been working there for almost 10 years references are easily found.

Well now with my new raise, I can go out shopping. I can start looking at digital cameras. The one I have is really old and outdated. I guess now is the best time to buy one.
