Using competitor’s coupons

My wife just found out that you can now use Lowe’s coupons at Home Depot. For those who do not know, Lowes on occassions sends coupons in the mail. They can be coupons like $10 off $50 in purchases or 10% off your entire purchase. Often times we can easily use these coupons at Lowes, but on occassions there are things that only Home Depot offers.

For example, Home Depot offers a wider variety of Kohler items (toilets, tubs, faucets, etc.). Most of these can run easily over $100. You can use the $10 coupon to save it off your purchase.

Living in Irvine, there is both a Lowes and Home Depot nearby. Both offer great service (compared to the ones in the South Bay). Both have no lines when paying and are really easy to return items. I really do not have a favorite, but the Lowes is a little bit closer to my house. With all the money saved, I can now buy one of those new fancy Acer Aspire laptops.

Prius brake problems

I just saw in the news today that someone in a Toyota Prius could not stop on the freeway. The car ended up going up to 94 mph. Luckily the man driving the car called the police from his cell, and they were able to help him stop the car. They ended driving the car to a hill, and it slowed to 55 mph. The police car got in front and was able to slow it to a stop.

We are fortunate that we do not have the Prius or the new Camry model. I would not want my wife driving our son around in a car so dangerous.

If I was that person, I would be looking around for used cars until Toyota gives him a brand new car.

Irvine 01/23/2010

This past weekend, we headed out to Irvine again to check out some listings. We had a late start. We did not leave our house until 4:30 p.m. By the time we got to Irvine it was starting to get dark, but we were still able to see 3 houses. Our first stop was a detached 3 bedroom house located right behind Irvine Community College. This was an older house, but it has been recently updated with hardwood floors, new carpet, new kitchen and bathrooms. The price for this house was $535K. It was really nice and open, and the swimming pool was located right in front of the house. But the one thing we did not like was the master bedroom was located upstairs while the other 2 bedrooms were downstairs. The size of the master was on the smaller sided too. The house has single paned windows, which had to be updated.

Another house we looked at was a 3 bedroom townhouse. We like this house because it was located right in front of a park. Your front yard was the beginning of the park. This is perfect for Brandon. There were swings and slides located steps from the house. The bedrooms were good sized and had a open floorplan. This was an older house which needed some updating. The kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, windows, and patio will need some money spent on it. It will be nice to add a Danze faucet to the kitchen and bathrooms. It was priced at $469K, which was bit on the high side considering the work that needed to be done to it.

Next week we plan to go again to Irvine. New homes at Woodbury East are opening up. We want to check it out.
