Are coupons worth it?

In the tough economic times right now, every dollar matters. One way to save money on your everday grocery shopping is with coupons. If you combine these with the weekly sales in the market, you can save a lot of money off the regular price.

But is it worth the trouble? You just have to work on it. Plan your market trip, that means doing your research on the current sale items on your weekly market flyers. Getting the Sunday papers, it has a good coupon section in it. Also check out stores that offer double coupons, meaning they will double the value of a coupon.

It may also be a good idea to get a coupon organizer. You do not want to be fumbling through a big stack of coupons while you are in the market.

If you fully commit to it, you can save about $50-100 a month just using coupons. And this adds up over the year.

Returning items after 30 days

Have you ever bought something that broke right after the 30 day return cycle? Instead of wasting your money on a piece of junk, there are several things you can do to avoid this problem:

Try purchasing some of the items at a place with a longer period return cycle, especially if the prices are similar. Target offers a 90 day window in which you can return something. And with places like Costco and Sam’s Club, you can return it anytime even if you do not have a receipt, as long as you still have the original box and manuals.

But if something does break after the return period, you can also repurchase the item and return it with the new receipt. This only works if they still carry the item in stock. We recently purchased an cooler bag from Target. The zipper broke after the 90 day return period. We only used the bag once. Luckily I was able to find the same bag at the store, buy it and return the broken one with the new receipt.

Email spam

Do you ever get those spam emails saying that there is 15 million dollars waiting for you? The person sending it an heir to a great fortune in Arab, and they need your help to take out the money and your share will be a ridiculous amount like 15 million dollars.

I wonder if anybody ever falls for those? I’m always curious to reply to them and play along. What will they ask for? I am either guessing identity theft or scam, in which they require to to pay like $1000 for processing fees to get the $15 million. And when you do pay, they just take your money and leave.

These scammers must prey on the stupid or crazy. I don’t see anybody falling for this. Nothing is free in life, no one is handing out $15 million.

Track your visitors

If you are a blogger or have a business website, you know the importance of tracking your hits to your site. These stats are vital to see where the people are coming from to see your site. For example, you might want to know which posts you write are attracting a lot of visitors, so you can write similar ones. In paid blogging the more users come, the higher your rank, the more money opps you will get. Wording is important. You want to word it in a way people will type in a search engine.

If you are a business you want to see where your main source of customers is coming from. Basically, you want the demographics of your customers. You can sort this by country, so you can better suit their needs and wants. There are many free stat sites out there but most of them can only offer you a limited amount of information. At IP2LOCATION, they have all of your tracking needs. They can address you hits based on Country, Region, City, Latitude, Longitude, ZIP Code, Time Zone, Connection Speed, Internet Service Provider (ISP), IP Address, and Domain Name. Their packages DB15-DB18 has one that suits your site’s needs. It consists of the IDD code, area code, weather station name and weather station code. So if this interests you, check out their demo. Also get your free Webmaster Tool like the one below on their website.

Are rebates worth it?

You may see a great deal on a television, but it involves a rebate of $50. Do you buy it? Personally it is total up to the buyer. If they have the patience to wait the 6-8 weeks for the rebate to process then buy. It is a great deal. But if you are not the patient type person, it is better to look elsewhere for a place that does not have a rebate you have to deal with.

Patience rewards itself, and usually with the rebate, it is the better deal in the end. But the hassle of dealing with a rebate can drive a person up the wall. Filling out forms, cutting upc codes, mailing it, and paying for postage causes some people not to bother. Sometimes it gets lost in the mail, and it can become a hassle. Cutting out the upc code can also cause problems if you want to return the item later too.

Some places like Staples makes the rebate process a little easier with their Easy Rebates. You can do the whole process online and not have to cut upc codes or mail anything.

My rule of thought is if an item you will most likely not return, a rebate is worth it. But if it is an item that has a chance of breaking down like a portable hard drive or something like that, then it is not. So you can have a 2 way arguement about rebates, but it is totally up to the person buying the item to decide if a rebate is worth it.

Real estate and Google Maps

Googles maps has really gone far since just having a picture of your rooftop. You can now see the entire front side of your house. This is good for real estate agents showing prospective houses to their clients. Some listings do not have pictures of houses, but now with Google maps you can still have a picture of their house thru satellite pictures.

Google your address and follow the links. Click on the “street view” option. Once you click that or the picture of it, it will take you down to your street you live on. You will either have to go up or down the block to find your house. Use the arrow keys to turn to house, and there you have it.

In addition to having a picture of the house, your client can also view up and down the street to see the neighborhood. This is a good tool to have and use. The picture is amazingly detailed, you can see the front door and all the plants in the front yard.
